It is today the last house to famous Men of our History.
Louis XV has the church built consequently to a wish he had expressed in 1744 when he suffered from a serious illness.
It was formally Sainte-Geneviève church which Soufflot redesigned in the 18th century. It has been used since the French Revolution to hold the ashes of Great Men such as, Mirabeau, Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Victor-Hugo, Emile Zola, Jean Moulin, Gaspard Monge, François Fénélon, Louis David, Jean- Jaurès, Louis Braille, Pierre and Marie Curie, André Malraux.
In 1806, Napoleon gave the Sanctuary back to the Church. It becomes Pantheon again from 1831 to 1852, then a worship place before being transformed into a public building in 1885.
